As part of the Lexington Two curriculum, Eng. I students will begin reading one of my favorite novels--To Kill a Mockinbird.  While much of the novel is light, humorous, and centered on the beautiful innocence of childhood, there are also very mature themes running throughout.  Students will be asked to think about and discuss racism, gender roles, mob mentality, violence, conformity, etc.  Please assist your child at home by periodically discussing some of these more mature themes.  I don't expect all students to agree with one another, but I do ask that they try to be open-minded and that they discuss their ideas with mutual respect.
